How an emergency supply works
If you urgently need more of a medicine you are already prescribed and cannot get a prescription in time, a pharmacist may be able to supply a small amount in an emergency, after a short assessment. NHS 111 can direct you to a pharmacy that can help. Bring details of your medicine — the name, strength and dose — if you have them, for example on a repeat slip or your NHS App.
When to get urgent help instead
An emergency medicine supply is for routine medicines you have run out of. If you are seriously unwell, having a medical emergency, or your symptoms are severe or rapidly worsening, call 999 or go to A&E. If you are unsure how urgent it is, call NHS 111.
